Arrangements in place for Maramon convention

The Mar Thoma Evangelistic Association (MTEA) attached to the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the 115th week-long annual religious retreat that begins at Maramon, near Kozhencherry, on Sunday afternoon.

PATHANAMTHITTA: The 115th Maramon convention, the largest Christian gathering in the world organised by the Mar Thoma Church, is all set to begin on the sandbed of Pampa river at Maramon near Kozhenchery on Sunday.

PATHANAMTHITTA: Bishop of Marthoma Church Thomas Mar Timotheos has said that all spheres of the society, political, social and cultural, are facing problems on account of value erosion.

115th Maramon Convention-February 14 to 21st

Asia’s biggest Christian gathering Maramon Convention (The 115th) is scheduled February 14 to 21st. The pandal (flat roof thatched by woven coconut leaves) which can accommodate almost 100,000 people is expected to be completed by Wednesday February 10.

Maramon Convention ends

PATHANMATHITTA: Head of Marthoma Church Joseph Marthoma Metropolitan has called upon the faithful to face the crisis caused by the present global financial meltdown by following the path of Jesus Christ. 

Delivering the message on the conclusion of the 114th Maramon Convention on the sand-bed of Pampa near Kozhencherry on Sunday, Joseph Marthoma Metropolitan said that the faithful should have unflinching faith in Christ to overcome the serious crises faced by the world. 

The faithful should show the people of other faiths the path of the Cross to overcome the problems faced at present.  Delivering the discourse earlier, South African Bishop Martin Lund called for a new approach in attracting the people of other faiths.

Asia's biggest Christian convention begins in Kerala

Maramon (Kerala), Feb 15: The Maramon convention, which is billed as the largest congregation of Christians in Asia, organised by Syrian Mar Thoma church of Kerala opened here Sunday.

The 114th Maramon convention was inaugurated by the head of Mar Thoma church, Joseph Marthoma Metropolitan. The church is headquartered at Thiruvalla, about 130 km from Thiruvananthapuram.

Minister reviews Maramon Convention arrangements

Pathanamthitta: Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran has said that elaborate arrangements have been made for the 114th Maramon Convention from February 15 to 22. The Minister was reviewing the arrangements at a meeting at the Maramon Retreat Centre on Monday. He stressed the need for keeping the convention venue, the Pampa riverbed, and its surroundings clean. The local self-government institutions and the Kerala State Pollution Control Board should check dumping of waste on the riverbanks.

Maramon Convention

Maramon and Kozhencherry, on the banks of the rive Pampa 16 kilometres east of Tiruvalla, have for centuries been recognised as centres of Christian culture and influence. Maramon is also famous as the birth place of Palakkunnathu Abraham Maplah, leader of the reformation in the Syrian Church of Malabar in the 19th century. This village which developed into a town has the added distinction of being the venue of a religious gathering known as Maramon Convention, said to be the largest Christian gathering in Asia.
